CrossFit changes lives

I first learned about CrossFit around 2012. I was living in New Jersey at the time, and some of my friends were trying this new workout style that made them “clean and jerk” everything they saw (including, but not limited to, kids’ bikes, fallen tree branches, and anything lying on the floor). They also stopped eating bread—or really, anything that wouldn’t have been available in the Paleolithic age (IYKYK). Interestingly enough, I didn’t know our ancestors drank vodka, but what did I know...

Now, don’t get me wrong—I’ve always been a gym girl. I joined the gym when I was about 17 and convinced my dad to pay for my membership. I used to bike or run to the gym; I was committed! I loved lifting heavy, and the guys would often work out with me. All this to say, I’ve never shied away from hard work. But hearing that people would yell at you if you didn’t do burpees fast enough? That was a no from me. Needless to say, I didn’t join CrossFit during my time in New Jersey.

Fast forward to 2016: we moved to Florida, and I met this super-jacked, tiny Nicaraguan girl with muscles to her name—she was goals! Naturally, I asked her what kind of training she did. Her answer? One word: CrossFit. The funny thing was, this girl was totally normal. We had walked past several branches, and not once did she try to clean and jerk them. I was impressed. I realized maybe you could be a normal person and do CrossFit. Still, it took me almost another year to finally join a CrossFit gym. My journey began at CrossFit Downtown Miami (now BOXR), and I’ve never looked back.

To say CrossFit changed my life is an understatement. CrossFit gave me a better understanding of myself—of my strength. It gave me friends, confidence, and even my own business. Thanks to CrossFit, I was able to change careers, and now I spend my days helping people change their lives, discover their strength, and find their power.

CrossFit changed my life, and I know it can change yours too. The days of hard-core coaches yelling at you if you couldn’t keep up are long gone.
